Chromosome counts give a major understanding of the relations in the genus Cryptocoryne. According to Arends et al. (1982), species are grouped and are listed below. The technique of counting chromosomes is rather complicated and laborious. You need a pretty good microscope and moreover, you must be experienced to get the right interpretation. Not all pictures are like these above!
