Niels Jacobsen plays his watertrumpet

The common english name for Cryptocoryne is "watertrumpet". It is not sure whether this name comes from the typical shape of the spathe with tube and limb or from a local use by the Asian people. Among the the crypts-growers it was not in use, till now...

Preparation of the watertrumpet:
Have a 2-3 day old spathe of a Cryptocoryne with a reasonable tube length (5+ cm)

Cut off the lower part of the kettle (not the side as in the picture left) and remove the spadix with both the female and male flowers (see drawing at right)

Take care of letting the valve intact

Take the kettle between your lips at the position of the valve

DO NOT touch the edge because it may irritate your lips

Press air (to escape between the valve and the kettle wall). Gently push the valve in an optimal position with your lips
